Social Media & Online Engagement

Social media can be an informative and supportive way to connect, learn, and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. The Center for Mindful Exploration maintains a limited social media presence for educational and informational purposes. To protect your privacy, maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries, and uphold professional ethical standards, we ask that you review the following guidelines regarding our online interactions.

Confidentiality & Professional Boundaries

Your privacy is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. While you are free to share that you are participating in therapy or discuss your experiences with anyone you choose, our therapists are ethically and legally obligated to protect your confidentiality. For this reason, we will not publicly acknowledge or confirm whether someone is or has been a client of our practice.

To maintain clear professional boundaries, therapists do not accept or initiate friend requests, follow requests, or other personal connections with current or former clients on any social media platform. Likewise, therapists do not follow clients' personal or professional social media accounts.

Following or interacting with The Center for Mindful Exploration's social media accounts does not establish a therapeutic relationship, nor is there any expectation that clients follow or engage with our online content. Your decision to interact—or not interact—with our social media presence has no impact on the services you receive.

Communication Through Social Media

Social media is not an appropriate or secure method of communication with our practice or our therapists. Direct messages, comments, reviews, and other interactions on social media are not monitored consistently and should never be used to communicate about appointments, treatment, or personal health information. We cannot guarantee that messages sent through social media will be received or responded to.

For scheduling, administrative questions, or updates to your personal information, please use the secure client portal (TherapyNotes) or contact our office directly at 706-443-5433. Questions about your treatment or therapeutic concerns are best discussed during your therapy sessions or through appropriate secure communication channels.

The Center for Mindful Exploration will never request sensitive personal, financial, legal, or clinical information through social media. If you receive such a request claiming to be from our practice, please contact our office directly.

Educational Content

Information shared through our social media accounts is intended for general educational and informational purposes only. It is not individualized mental health advice and should not be considered a substitute for therapy or professional clinical care. Because every person's circumstances are unique, information shared online may not apply to your specific situation.

Client Privacy

Social media is a public forum. Before liking, commenting on, sharing, or otherwise interacting with our content, please consider your own privacy. Public engagement with our accounts may allow others to infer that you have an interest in mental health services or are familiar with our practice. We encourage you to use your own discretion when deciding how to engage online.

Reviews & Testimonials

To protect client privacy and maintain professional boundaries, The Center for Mindful Exploration does not request or solicit reviews, testimonials, endorsements, or ratings from current or former clients.

Please note that third-party websites may create listings for our practice without our knowledge or participation. Our presence on these websites should not be interpreted as a request for reviews or public commentary.

Online Searches

Our therapists do not routinely search for clients online or review clients' social media activity. Therapy is based on the information you choose to share during sessions, rather than information that may be incomplete or misinterpreted through online sources.

In the rare event of a serious safety concern—such as when a therapist believes a client may be at imminent risk and traditional methods of contact have been unsuccessful—a therapist may conduct a limited online search solely to assist in ensuring the client's welfare. If this occurs, the search will be documented in the clinical record and discussed with you when appropriate.

Emergencies

Our social media accounts are not monitored for urgent or emergency communications. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or are concerned about your immediate safety, call 911, go to your nearest emergency department, or call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Questions

If you have questions about these guidelines or about online interactions with your therapist, we encourage you to discuss them during your session or contact our office. Because technology and social media continue to evolve, this policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in professional standards, ethical guidelines, and best practices.
